TMJ
TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ) DISORDERS CAN BE A REAL PAIN
WHAT IS THE TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT?
The TMJ acts as a sliding hinge, connecting your jawbone to your skull. You have one TMJ on each side of your jaw.
WHAT IS A TMJ DISORDER?
TMJ disorders are a complex and often misunderstood set of conditions characterized by pain in the jaw joint and the muscles that control jaw movement.
Signs and Symptoms of TMJ:
- Pain or tenderness of your jaw
- Pain in one or both of the temporomandibular joints
- Aching pain in and around your ear
- Difficulty chewing or pain while chewing
- Aching facial muscle pain
- Locking of the joint, making it difficult to open or close your mouth
RELIEF FROM TMJ PAIN
Typically, the pain and discomfort associated with TMJ disorders is temporary and treatable. Dr. Froeber has completed highly specialized training in the treatment of this disorder. Although numerous treatments are available, nonsurgical solutions have provided the most relief for our patients.
Oral appliances are an effective solution for a variety of TMJ conditions. Oral (occlusal) appliances are custom-made and are inserted over a patient’s teeth to help alleviate pain.
